My name is Yanit Asulin
I am a singer, producer, and artistic director—and for over 20 years, this has been the world I live and breathe.
Born and raised in Israel, nurtured by the warmth, joy, and musical heritage of my Moroccan roots, my life has always been shaped by an eclectic blend of sounds—from traditional Moroccan music and French chansons to the rich legacy of Jewish liturgical melodies and Israeli music.
For me, great music and great production always go hand in hand; I love being on stage just as much as I love making sure every production detail is perfect. It is this combination of performing at the forefront while planning everything behind the scenes that is the secret to the success of my events.
On stage, I am a global folklore singer performing in over ten languages—including Greek, Ladino, Arabic, Moroccan, French, Italian, and Yiddish—with a particular expertise in the rich folklore of Mediterranean nations. As an Israeli artist who performs all over the world, I see this music as inseparable from the Israeli experience; it is the ultimate soundtrack to our 'Ingathering of the Exiles.'
I am proud to be known as 'Israel’s Folklore Singer' because I believe that folklore is a bridge—an authentic joy that connects people through our shared roots, even if they have only just met in the audience.

So why folklore?
My choice to delve deeper and specialize in the genre of folklore music was an expression of the ability to create "a safe shared space to be in", long before I had the words to describe what was happening there in the hall when I was on stage.
Because just as beneath all our roles, there is the "who" we are — before we need to be someone.
So too, beneath all our diverse life stories, there is the "what" we are — before we can tell anything about it.
And this is the meaning of folklore.
Folk Lore = This is "the story of the people."
But that's not the story each of us tells about ourselves.
It's something deeper. Something that lies beneath all the stories.
Below - where we came from.
Below the language we grew up with.
Below the role we took on.
There are things we recognize without anyone having to explain them to us.
Folklore songs touch exactly on this place.
Not in "the head". ANot in "Who am I supposed to be?"
In something I already know, in the body.
Shared DNA.
And when I hear it, something in me says:
Yes. It's ours.
It is not found only in one language, or in one place, or in one tradition.
Not In Greek. Not in Ladino, In Hebrew, In Arabic, In Moroccan. In Yiddish.
It is found in everything that remains with us beneath all definitions & languages. In that common place where all differences are erased, a place that cannot really be explained, but can be recognized when experienced. A place where us all connected and united.
And this is the gift I received from God as an artist:
To connect people to these places they already know.
The place beyond the personal role. The place beyond the personal and even national story.
It's already there. Inside all of us.
And I know how to open access to it.
And the music?
Music is just the means. The tool through which I open the door.
And when it comes to folklore music, it is even more powerful.
As this music was simply created to open that exact door.
Because eventually - "less Celebrity. More Celebrate".
It's less about being someone. More about being.
A human being.

Folklore Addicted - EP Album
So, what exactly is 'Folklore Addicted – EP'? To me, it is far more than just a mini-album; it is a passion project born from two years of deep creative work. Conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when the world felt distant and disconnected, I felt a calling to create something that offered the exact opposite: closeness, resonance, and a return to life's essentials through my love for folklore and the stories that music tells.
Released in 2023, the EP features six songs in five different languages—Greek, Egyptian Arabic, Spanish, Italian, and Hebrew. Each track marks a milestone in my personal and musical journey. To bring these stories to life, each song is accompanied by a cinematic music video filmed on location in its country of origin. Filmed during the height of the pandemic, many of these sites were closed to the public at the time, capturing rare and breathtaking visuals that are truly one-of-a-kind.
In producing this album, I collaborated with world-renowned Israeli producers, including Kobi Israelite (London) and Gene Reznick (Toronto). If you are someone who craves 'soulful' sounds—the kind that feel like home and simply make your heart beat faster—this is a journey you must experience."
